VP Alupo Tasks Teso RDCs to Convince FDC’s Omer to Join NRM
The Vice President of Uganda Her Excellency Jessica Alupo Epel has tasked Resident District Commissioners in Teso with persuading Paul Omer, a prominent figure in the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), and other opposition members in the region to join the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party.
Alupo made this statement during the recent graduation ceremony of over 400 students at the Teso Zonal Presidential Skilling Hub in Soroti City.
She highlighted that Omer and other opposition leaders in the region have often relied on unfulfilled promises by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to discredit the NRM’s governance.
With most of President Museveni’s pledges to the people of Teso now fulfilled, Alupo emphasized the importance of uniting all political factions to acknowledge and support the achievements of the NRM government.
She cited completed projects such as Soroti University, the Soroti-Moroto road construction, ongoing cattle compensation, the Kumi-Tiriny road, the Ferry Project, and upcoming roadworks for the Kumi-Kagwara road as evidence of progress.
While recognizing the contributions of opposition leaders in Teso, Alupo appealed to them to consider joining the NRM.
She announced that President Museveni plans to welcome new NRM members in Bukwo by the end of the month and encouraged those interested to openly collaborate with the party.
“I urge the RDCs to engage them respectfully, demonstrate the government’s operations, and I am confident they will join us.”
Mr. Omer has not yet commented on matter.
But, the Executive Director for Public Affairs Centre of Uganda (PAC) Benson Ekwee Ochen has said that; “This is interesting coming from Vice President.”
He added that, “RDCs are not NRM party operatives but designated civil servants expected to be non partisan. On my opinion, convincing Omer to join NRM is a task for NRM party chairpersons and cadres.”
