The Vice President of the Republic of Uganda has officially opened a cassava processing plant in Nyero Sub County, Kumi district, aimed at facilitating value addition for local farmers.

This establishment was made possible through the generous support from Korea, facilitated by IDI Uganda.

Joy Lee, the manager of IDI Uganda, highlighted the various initiatives undertaken by the organization to drive development in Kumi and Ngora districts. These initiatives include the construction of classrooms, teachers’ residences, school fencing, model farming, and value addition projects.

Lee emphasized that the community’s financial contributions play a crucial role in these projects, with the organization stepping in to cover a significant portion of the costs.

Sidronious Okaasai Opolot, the State Minister for Energy, commended IDI for establishing the cassava processing facility in the region. He noted that this facility will provide a market for the cassava crops that he encouraged local farmers to cultivate, having supplied them with cassava cuttings in the initial planting season.

Furthermore, Her Excellency Jessica Alupo expressed her gratitude for the collaborative efforts of the Korean government in advancing development in Uganda.

Alupo praised the initiative, aligning it with the NRM’s development agenda for 2021-2026, which emphasizes the importance of value addition.

She urged IDI to expand its services throughout the region, enabling individuals to generate income through value addition opportunities.

Alupo issued a challenge to all NGOs nationwide to emulate IDI’s model, ensuring a lasting impact even after their tenure concludes.
