The Vice President, Rtd. Maj. Jessica Rose Alupo Epel, has extended an offer to train and equip 220 young individuals in Katakwi in short tailoring and hairdressing courses.

Alupo revealed that the Chinese embassy has provided support in the form of a donation consisting of 100 sewing machines, 100 hair salon kits, and 20 vehicle washing jets.

However, before receiving these machines as a startup, the youth must undergo skills training.

She urged the head of the national presidential industrial skilling hub to consider training these 220 young individuals, emphasizing that these machines would greatly assist them in establishing their own small businesses.

Alupo proposed a collaboration between the presidential industrial hub and training programs for school leavers and stay-at-home mothers.

She encouraged the youth in the Teso sub-region, especially those who are unemployed or dependent, to enhance their productivity by acquiring practical skills and engaging in various income-generating activities to alleviate poverty in their households.

Geoffrey Omolo, the LC 5 Katakwi district, called for an increase in the number of youth receiving presidential training in Katakwi.

Currently, only 20 young individuals are sent to Soroti for skilling under the presidential hub project, despite significant interest from the youth.

In response to the Vice President’s request to equip the 220 youth, Mr. Raymond Kamugisha, in charge of the presidential skilling center for Boys and Girls in Uganda, confirmed that the state house controller has approved the order to ensure the youth are skilled until completion.

Kamugisha also assured that the number of young individuals from Katakwi receiving skills training will be augmented in response to the request from LC 5 Katakwi, considering it is the largest district.
