UPDF Officer Murders Three Civilians, Injures Two Others in Agago Shooting
A Uganda Peoples’ Defense Forces (UPDF) officer has on Monday morning shot dead three civilians and injured two others in Ngora East village, Ngora Parish Paimol Sub County in Agago district.
The soldier is identified as 45 years- old Private Ameny Bonny attached to the 01 commando battalion of the Special Forces Command.
The deceased are as 21 years old Sunday Apiyo, 47 years old Santino Akidi, and 16 year’s old Florence Ajalo whereas the injured are Charles Kumakech Kidega, and Janet Apiyo, all are residents of Ngira East Village. The deceased bodies and injured people are conveyed at Dr. Ambrosoli Memorial Hospital Kalongo for postmortem and treatment respectively.
Preliminary information indicates that Pte Ameny, a native of Ocini Parish in Kamdini Sub county Oyam district went on rampage shooting people after developing a misunderstanding with his wife Betty Angom who escaped from him. He is believed to have been looking for the man who could have taken his wife.
Capt. Edrin Mawanda, the Public Information Officer 5 Infantry Division of the UPDF confirmed the incident saying UPDF and sister security agencies are jointly investigating the incident.
He further explains that upon arrest, the solider will be prosecuted and punished as an individual.
According to him, the UPDF will meet all the burial arrangements of the deceased as well as the medical expenses of the injured.
