The Vice President Maj. (Rtd) Jessica Alupo has lauded the International Development Institute-Uganda (IDI-U) for its contributions to the socio-economic progress of the Ugandan populace.

Since its establishment in 2006, the Korean organization has been instrumental in uplifting lives in various districts including Kumi, Amuria, Mayuge, Kamuli, Luuka, and Kabarole.

The organization’s initiatives encompass a wide array of focus areas such as Child Focus Community Transformation (CFCT), Disease Prevention Programs, Livelihood Projects in Agriculture, holistic development programs, as well as provisions for spiritual, educational, physical, economic, and social support for community advancement.

In the Teso Sub Region, IDI-U successfully implemented a 3-year agriculture project benefiting 600 farmers in Ngora and Kumi districts, focusing on cassava production and value addition, which was officially handed over in 2023.

The vice president extolled the work of IDI-U, noting its alignment with the Government of Uganda National Development Plan and the National Resistance Movement (NRM)’s manifesto (2021-2026) theme, ‘Securing Your Future’.

Alupo emphasized the significance of non-governmental organizations like IDI-U in supplementing the country’s development efforts when properly oriented ideologically.

She expressed her admiration for the positive impact of IDI-U’s initiatives in Kumi district and encouraged the replication of such success stories in other regions of Uganda.

Furthermore, Alupo underscored the importance of value addition projects like the cassava initiative in promoting economic growth and job creation within the country.

Alupo called upon the collective responsibility of leaders to foster prosperity, alleviate poverty, and create a conducive environment for societal transformation.

She emphasized the pivotal role of partnerships, political stability, and governmental support in driving community development.

In conclusion, Alupo reaffirmed the commitment of the NRM Government, under the leadership of President Museveni, to collaborate with entities like IDI-U in empowering and uplifting the Ugandan population through various intervention programs.

Myung Hyun Lee, the Manager of IDI-Uganda, expressed gratitude to the Ugandan government, led by President Museveni, for facilitating the organization’s operations and fostering collaboration for community development.

IDI-Uganda’s comprehensive approach to development encompasses spiritual enrichment, health and sanitation, educational advocacy, and agriculture/livelihood initiatives.
